Keyword density refers to the ratio of a keyword to the total number of words in a text – in other words, how often a specific term appears. While it used to be a key SEO factor, today it plays a less important role since search engines like Google focus more on semantic relationships and natural language.

What matters more to Google today:

Google uses NLP models like BERT and MUM to understand context and intent. As a result, keyword density and exact phrases have become less important. Instead, what's crucial is:

• Topical relevance
• Matching the user’s search intent
• Structured, helpful content

Still, checking keyword density can be useful: If the Keywordkönig plugin reveals that certain keywords appear very frequently on your page, you should review the density. Overusing key terms unnaturally can become a negative ranking signal.
